The style edit

Old Nollywood outfits, your way

The fun is not copying a famous costume. It is taking the screen-era mood—a bold entrance, a clear silhouette, a finishing touch—and making a look that belongs to your own part.

Pick your role

Try all five directions in Old Nollywood Night.

Two painted Y2K party looks from Mami Wuta: a baby tee with denim and a football jersey with baggy jeans.

Five parts, five different looks

Old Nollywood Night gives you five fictional roles to dress. Each one starts with a different brief; none is a replica of a real actor or film. Pick the part that makes you want to open the wardrobe.

Lagos Big Girl

Y2K glam. A denim mini or a slip, shades on.

The whole party stops when you walk in.

Campus Big Boy

baggy denim, a loud top and one chain.

Everybody on campus knows your name. Dress like it.

The Big Madam

a wrapper set, red beads and a head-tie tied high.

Nobody sits until you do.

The Chief

a grand robe, the cap set right, slippers to match.

The whole hall stands when you arrive.

Fresh Off the Bus

your best co-ord or flares, worn with full confidence.

Your first night out in Lagos. Everyone is looking.

Make the outfit read at a glance

Choose one hero piece first: a denim mini, a loud shirt, a wrapper set or a grand robe. Then let the other pieces support it. If the top carries the whole story, the shoes and accessories can be quieter. If the silhouette is simple, one sharp finish can do the work.

Think about the room as well as the era. A party look can play with denim, shades and platforms. A formal hall asks for a different level of dress. That is the difference between dressing in a theme and dressing for a scene.

Try it before you decide

In Mami Wuta you can change pieces on the rail, lock the look and see it on your own film cover. Take another part when you want a new direction. The styling choices are yours, even when two people pick the same role.
